The Genesis 1:29 Project is a faith based organization which will increase the physical health and wellbeing for people of faith in Chicagoland.
The Genesis 1:29 Project will initially serve houses of worship by offering classes using the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) varied curricula. The Project will eventually offer coaching services to those attending classes. Finally, The Project will offer consulting services to houses of worship to begin a Health Ministry within their congregation.

Rev. Xolani Kacela, PhD
Xolani is an ordained minister serving a congregation in Durham, NC. He earned degrees from Morehouse College, Boston University, and Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University. He serves as the Deputy State Chaplain (Air) for the District of Columbia National Guard. He teaches Pastoral Ministry at Meadville-Lombard Theological School in Chicago, IL. Currently, he volunteers on the Emergency Services Patient & Family Advisory Council at Duke University Medical Center and health ministry for the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance in Durham. A certified group exercise instructor, he has taught spinning for 11 years and regularly practices yoga and mindfulness meditation. His hobbies include studying Spanish, listening to music, and traveling. He is married to Tamara and serves as chair of The Genesis 1:29 Project.
Lisa Slovin, MBA, MC
Lisa has an eclectic educational background and has lived an eclectic adult life. After attending Cornell University as a Fine Arts student and working in the arts in New York City, Lisa earned an MBA from Columbia University and began a business career with American Express. Lisa left the workforce in order to be a stay-at –home mother. As a homeschooling parent, Lisa discovered a passion for self-directed learning that spanned topics in education, psychology, health and wellness. While raising her children, Lisa obtained a Master in Counseling degree from Arizona State University. She currently coaches and teaches clients about health-promoting nutrition, meal planning and cooking. Her home congregation is in Tucson, Arizona where she volunteers for the Primavera Foundation and teaches an adult education class about healthy eating. She serves as the secretary of The Genesis 1:29 Project.
Carol D’Anca, MS, CNS, LDN
Carol is a board certified and licensed integrative nutritionist, author, public speaker and practitioner in private practice. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of WI and her Master of Science degree in Clinical Nutrition from Rosalind Franklin University of Science and Medicine/The Chicago Medical School. Prior to her current position, she spent 20 years in executive positions at several healthcare companies, each reminding her of the overwhelming need for preventing chronic illness. Current volunteer experience includes fundraising for children’s organizations including Feed My Starving Children, No Kid Hungry, The Northern IL Food Bank and Dreams for Kids. She serves as the treasurer of The Genesis 1:29 Project.
Rev. Russell Elleven, DMin, BCC, CWP
Russell is an ordained minister, board certified health coach, certified wellness practitioner and licensed counselor. He earned degrees from Texas Christian University, Vanderbilt University, the University of North Texas, and Meadville Lombard Theological School. He spent 17 years in higher education as an administrator and professor and then nearly a decade leading a congregation as minister. Past volunteer experiences include serving as a board member of a small nonprofit, addiction counseling, a city historical commissioner, and a Volunteer in Policing (VIP) program.
